The internet can be a great place to find information and meet new people, but it can also be a haven for scammers. Scammers exploit others by tricking them into giving them money or personal information.

There are many different types of scams, but some common ones include the following:

  • Phishing scams involve emails or websites that look like they’re from a legitimate company but are fake. The scammers will try to get you to enter your personal information, such as your credit card or Social Security number.
  • Romance scams: The scammer will pretend to be interested in you and gain your trust. Once they have your faith, they will ask for money or personal information.
  • Job scams: The scammer will post a legitimate job listing in these scams. Once you apply for the job, they will ask you for money upfront to “start” the career. They may also ask for your Social Security number or bank account information so that they can direct deposit your paychecks.
  • Investment scams: The scammer will try to get you to invest in something that doesn’t exist or is not a good investment. They may promise high returns with little risk, but you could lose money.
