With the advent of social media, the rise of the “crowdsourcing” phenomenon has been meteoric. From online petitions to crowdfunding campaigns, there’s no limit to what can be accomplished when large groups come together to achieve a common goal.

But what is crowdsourcing, exactly? And how can you make sure that your crowdsourcing efforts are successful?

Here’s a beginner’s guide to crowdsourcing:

What is crowdsourcing?

Crowdsourcing is the act of enlisting the help of a large group of people to accomplish a task or reach a goal.

This can be done in exchange for compensation (financial or otherwise) or simply for the satisfaction of taking part in something larger than oneself.

One of the most famous examples of successful crowdsourcing is Wikipedia, which relies on volunteer contributors worldwide to write and edit its articles. Other examples include crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, which allow people to donate money to support creative projects, and online petition sites like Change.org. This enables users to start and sign petitions on various topics.
