Common Mistakes to Avoid When Formating Your Self-Published Book
In this piece, I’ll dive into the most common mistakes you can make as a self published author, and discuss solutions to ensure your book stands out.
Left Aligning Text:
- Mistake: Use left-aligned text, which can appear less polished and be less reader-friendly.
- Fix: Opt for justified text to create a neater appearance and enhance the reading experience.
Block Paragraphs vs. First Line Indent:
- Mistake: Using block paragraphs without understanding the visual impact or using first-line indent with unnecessary separations.
- Fix: Choose between block paragraphs or first-line indentations based on your preference. If using a first-line indent, avoid additional separations.
Placing Elements Near the Gutter:
- Mistake: Placing print elements near print books’ gutter leads to printing and readability issues.
- Fix: Keep headers, footers, and other elements away from the gutter to ensure a clean and readable layout.
