How to Fix an Amazon KDP “Misleading Category” Email
Have you received an alarming email from Amazon KDP warning that your book’s details are “misleading”? I recieved one ealier (screenshot below) and it got me worried until I found a way to fix it.
Fixing this issue is simpler than you think.
In this piece, I’ll dive into the exact steps to resolve this problem, protect your account, and ensure your book is accurately represented.
What Does a KDP “Misleading Category” Email Mean?
When you publish a book on Amazon, you must classify it by choosing categories, keywords, and BISAC codes (industry-standard book classifications). This helps Amazon place your book in the correct sections of their store.
If your chosen categories or codes don’t match your book’s content, Amazon flags them as “misleading.”
For example, if your book is a self-help guide but you classify it under “Science Fiction,” customers could feel misled, and Amazon steps in to prevent this.
